About the Artist
THE ART OF AL JUNEK

Al Junek, born in Port Lavaca, Texas, received his BS in Engineering from Texas A&M University. He retired from engineering in 2000 and is currently a full time artist residing in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He began painting in 1989 after formal training at the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy. Al has continued his studies in workshops by a number of nationally known artists. He works primarily in watercolor, but enjoys pastel and pen/ink as well. He is fascinated by light and its resulting values; this effect is captured in many of his works. Al’s paintings often depict scenes reflective of places he has seen or where he has lived. He says of his painting:

“I try to share the beauty of a particular place or moment in a way that will transport viewers to that spot so they can experience much the same sights or feelings that moved me to stop and take it in.”

Al has won numerous awards in juried exhibitions and his paintings are in collections in several states including the World Trade Center at New Orleans, Louisiana and The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at College Station, Texas. He is a member of the Art League of Henderson County, Watercolor Society of North Carolina, Southern Watercolor Society, and a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society.
